On December 30th we’ll be moving on from the past in a major way, with the new moon in Capricorn.

On December 30th we’ll be moving on from the past in a major way, with the new moon in Capricorn. It will be the first new moon in 16 years without outer planet Pluto in the same sign. Having learned lessons from the past, we can allow ourselves to move forward and graduate from whatever we’ve been enduring since 2008.

It will be the first new moon in 16 years without outer planet Pluto in the same sign. Having learned lessons from the past, we can allow ourselves to move forward and graduate from whatever we’ve been enduring since 2008.

Pluto’s presence in Capricorn brought us systems of increased authority with gatekeepers and a widespread reliance on authorities that have influenced the way we live. Now that Pluto has changed signs from Capricorn to Aquarius, we are stepping into a new relationship with authority and taking on new roles in self-governance. The new moon in this earth sign offers us a blank slate from which to launch our renewed sense of purpose.

The sign of Capricorn can be extremely nurturing, fulling a role when the need arises. Capricorn sees things as they are, which sets up a clearer frame of reference for strategizing and executing tasks very well and with formality. This energy is nice and grounded for wrapping up the year, looking towards 2025.

We can use this new moon in Capricorn to:

  • overcome our fears of the unknown

  • help others that need encouragement

  • receive help from unexpected sources, people or groups

  • strategize for our long-term goals

  • take on new responsibilities

  • put in a request for a promotion

  • develop further knowledge or upskill in preparation for a new role

  • insist on being presented with information supported by facts

  • be detached and objective in decision-making

  • establish self-governance

  • stand firm in our sense of purpose

  • rewrite a mission statement, protocol, guidelines or standards

  • give ourselves permission to take the next step

  • question authority figures we’ve outgrown

At this time we could be questioning our sense of obligation to those we might have perceived as authority figures in our lives. With this, self-declared gatekeepers from whom we’ve become accustomed to seeking approval and permission just might vanish into thin air. At the same time, wise elders and mentors are prepared to pass the torch to newcomers, trusting that they are ready for a new role.

With Chiron moving forward again in Aries on the same day, this new moon is somber and reflective. It gives us a chance to pause before a major reset starts taking place in 2025 with Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter and Uranus changing signs—Pluto, the first to do so before the new year on November 19th 2024. A lot of planetary changes will be happening in 2025 and to better prepare us, Chiron in Aries supercharges our ability to heal our old wounds. Mars, currently retrograde in Leo is a complementary, supporting energy as we come into self-sovereignty.

This new moon in Capricorn gives an opportunity to redefine our roles on our own terms and stay true to our newly refined sense of purpose. Now is a time to break free of past constraints while trusting in a greater, divine plan and preparing to embrace the unknown.
